The North York Civic Centre at Yonge and Park Home is one of two locations in the City of Toronto's civil wedding pilot, with the most weekly dates, and it is one of three City wedding chambers you can book for your own officiant. That makes it a flexible choice for Muslim couples in North York and the northern GTA: you can have a City officiant perform a simple civil ceremony, or book the chamber and bring an imam who is authorized to solemnize marriages in Ontario.

How the civil ceremony works at North York Civic Centre
There are two ways to marry here. The City's civil wedding pilot offers a 30-minute, non-religious ceremony performed by a City of Toronto officiant on Thursdays, Fridays and select Saturdays, first come, first served. Separately, the City rents its wedding chamber at the North York Civic Centre in 30-minute blocks; that booking is for the room only, so you arrange your own authorized officiant. Either way, you need an Ontario marriage licence and two witnesses who are physically present.
Pairing a North York Civic Centre ceremony with your nikah
The wedding chamber option is the one to know about. If your imam is registered to perform marriages in Ontario, you can book the chamber and have the nikah and the legal marriage in one short ceremony. If your imam is not registered, use the City civil ceremony for the legal side and hold the nikah at your masjid or at home. North York Muslim Association is a short walk from the Civic Centre.

Modest and no-touch posing
City hall portraits are often taken in public, sometimes in front of parents and elders. A few decisions made in advance keep the photos comfortable for everyone.

Some couples are comfortable holding hands after the nikah, others prefer no touch at all in public. Tell your photographer in advance so poses are planned, not improvised in front of family.
