How the civil ceremony works at Brampton City Hall
Ceremonies take place at Brampton City Hall, 2 Wellington Street West, Monday to Friday during office hours, by appointment only. The City provides the officiant and the script, and no changes to the script are allowed. The ceremony runs at most 30 minutes and is conducted in English; if you need translation you bring an interpreter, who cannot also be a witness. You need two witnesses, one for each partner, aged 16 or older and able to understand and speak English. Up to 12 people may attend, including the couple and witnesses. You must present or buy a valid marriage licence when you book, and the City recommends arriving together 15 minutes early, because late arrivals are treated as a no-show.

With a fixed script and a 12-person cap, Brampton City Hall works best as the legal step, with the nikah held separately at a masjid or at home where the whole family can attend. Some couples do City Hall in the morning with parents and witnesses, then the nikah in the afternoon. If a grandparent needs translation at City Hall, remember the interpreter has to be someone other than your two witnesses.
